9th March 2026 - This is how the field in Baru, Romania, looked when we first arrived.

Abandoned since 2008, the land had become overgrown with trees over the years.

After speaking with the mayor of Baru, we reached an agreement: we would invest in and train the local children, while they would help us turn the abandoned field into a baseball field. The first step was clearing the land, so they began cutting down the trees and cleaning the area.

They cut down and removed a large number of trees. At first, the task looked overwhelming and didn’t give us much hope, but it was the beginning of the transformation.

This was our first aerial view of the field after the trees had been cut down.

30 March 2026 - You can see how much hard work was done to remove the trees.

The tree roots were dug out and removed with a bulldozer.

This is where our left field will be located.

We had to burn the trees because there was too much wood to carry away.

The field has three hydrants that we can use for watering.

18th May 2026 - This is how the left field looks now after all the trees have been removed. We still need to add a lot of soil to level the ground.

To reach the field, you need to go under this railway bridge. We also need to figure out a way to make it accessible on foot.

18th May 2026 - This is where we started plowing the field.

The football goals from the old field were tied together.

That's me, Eduard Pirvu, working at the field.

The mayor found a solution to remove all the stones and the old grass. We had to use this large machine.

27th May 2026 - This is the view of the field from behind home plate.

Waste removed from the field.

This is where we started seeding the field.

You are finally meeting the greatest mayor of all time - a truly passionate man with a big heart for people. He is also a devoted Christian, which I really appreciate. Please meet Dani Răducanu, the mayor of Baru commune, working on the field as well. We started pressing the field.

After the mayor worked for an hour, I continued for another hour and a half to make sure the ground was well compacted.

We pressed the area of the field where the seeds were planted. The left field will be developed in the future, once we find a solution to bring in soil and level the surface.

10th June 2026 - We are seeing the first signs that the grass is growing.

16th June 2026 - We see more hope
